if you look close enough, precisely on the left side of the screen near the nicknames, you'll see that the nice guys who write you back are from Timisoara. that is another city, like a full day of driving from Bucharest. I bet they really know what they are talking about. funny thing to belive that what you read in the mags is for real, isn't it?

for small zanders, a jack and three perch you can try on any of the lakes mentioned above. but I suppose it is not what you had in mind, huh?
well, that's what you can hope for. good spots around here are actually so scarce that those in the know won't ever write it down here in the open.

now, if you really need to xxx in the neighbourhood, you should know that all lakes are taken. even on those from the parks in the city you've got to pay. depending on the location, you may feel it's expensive, very expensive or you'll be wondering if the romanian lake owners aren't really a bit f...-d up. which of course is most times true.

prices on the good lakes are very close to what you'd pay in Austria for 2 days of trout fishing on a good river where they put xxx in every month, with trophy no kill zones and so on. only here they don't do the same things, you almost never get a guide and most probably won't get to see the color of the xxx even if you had one. because they don't really care about sport xxx, most lakes are carp fisheries. grass carp, bigheads, not even the funny species of carps.

the alternative is around the corner, danube river, around 60km away, there is barbel and xxx with teeth, all species. sadly, you won't be able to xxx there either, because the system requires a special licence and suckers working in the system don't realize that fishing tourism exists and foreigners should also have the right to xxx. the duane police officer sure won't know what to do with you and is hard for them to think without rules. nevertheless, they're still pouchers who made sure there is a limited population in the area, so you don't have to worry too much about danube either. it wasn't the best year anyways.

then there are the other rivers, don't even think about them, you can only get chubs and is very, very rare a good chub or barbel. sorry for the sad news, but without a guide you stand no chance in the neighburhood of bucharest. if I were you, I'd go fishing other creatures or ask around for good restaurants, they cook good food here, far better than what I had in wien that's for sure.

now, seriously speaking, the sarulesti-raduta lake has an website easy to find with google. and it is perhaps the only organized fisheries experienced in dealing with foreign fishermen. they say some even come back twice...)

Exception: you cannot xxx in Raduta lake on the 20th and 21th of october because there is a kind of competition there.
Therewith you can try Valea Argovei, I`ve heard it`s a good lake.

with about 40 euro you can xxx at Darvari, for instance. that would cover the cost for a boat too. there is no barbel neither catfish as far as I know but there is enough pike and perch pike to have fun with.

there is plenty of catfish on Arges river, on Mihailesti lake, but the waste management is too obvious all around the place, besides is crowded as a city street. fishing fee is about 6 euro.

food ain't that great in wien but coffee and cakes some of the best you can get around europe.

did you ever catch a catfish on the river arges, mircea? what about 2?
common, it's an army of fishermen there and once a month they all catch one, if any. yes I did had pikes and chubs there but not as a first comer. so that stinks too. you mentioned darvari, don't you think at that money they could at least give you the option to have expresso coffee makers in the area, perhaps some toilets as you can never know what hits you..

with that money per day friends have had big trout in france or even salmon in fisheries from spain and you can xxx carps and crucian carps all day long in italy til you get tired. once there, right next to the fishing spot there's a place where you can go to have an icecream and a cold beer, so that you can call the day off.

that is also why I won't do tourism, it's a lost case from the start.

let's just say that with 700 euro I can xxx a week on a river in your country or 10 days on others, and your country is one of the most expensive destinations for trout fishing. here, you'll need to pay 700 for 5 days on the sarulesti lake here for instance. in a month, that's more or less the cost I'd have to pay in order to go fishing char in patagonia a whole week with mel krieger, a celebrity in flyfishing.

in your rivers for instance, it's premium xxx, wild environment, no crowd, clean, people with respect for the business, plenty of xxx and you can also keep some if you need to. our gents here have read about catch & release so it's no kill situation, but strangely that doesn't seem to affect the xxx population so it's a bit hard to kill anything.

oh, you won't enjoy the nature either, as they don't use that money to plant trees. simply there is not a real intention to provide quality services to fishermen.

I go on the danube most frequently. the only lake in the neighbourhood that I like to visit 2-3 times per year is Caldarusani and that is for the view, not for the xxx. you can see some pictures on this page

Mathias, if you`ll go anywhere in Romania for fishing (especially Danube Delta) please take a romanian friend with you. Romanians in contact with foreigners become suddenly greedy!

not me, I'm still having a rough time with strapazani, not to mention that if I hit one I don't stand a chance with the equipment I use. but some people I know did quite ok this year.

nevertheless, since mathias works here, most probably he has noticed the difference between his and our country. and it would sound a little bit funny to tell him "there is no place you can go fishing around bucharest", isn't it?
